Job Summary:  Reporting to the Social Service Director, the Addictions Worker will utilize the Honouring Our Strengths framework to provide programs and services to individuals and families affected by substance use and addiction. Working as part of an integrated team, the Addictions Worker will improve access and support for community members affected by substance use and addiction issues in a client-centered, culturally appropriate manner. This community-based initiative is responsible for the administration of community development and collaboration with various health and social service workers to deliver prevention programs, targeted prevention, early identification, and intervention   Preferable skills & Qualifications:  A successful candidate must possess the following: * Diploma or degree in Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health, Indigenous Studies, Human Services, or related field * Specialized training in crisis intervention, substance use and/or problem gambling * Knowledge of Indigenous culture, traditions, and the impacts of intergenerational trauma is considered an asset. * Ability to explore creative methods and ideas to help people struggling with addictive behaviours * Ability to administer and interpret provincially mandated alcohol, drug, and gambling assessment tools * Computer skills; proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point) * Strong communication and active listening skills. * Excellent organizational and documentation skills. * Conflict resolution and de-escalation skills. * First Aid and CPR Certificate * Clean Criminal Reference Check * A Valid Class “G” Driver’s License   Summary of Duties & Responsibilities: The Addictions Worker shall: * Implement the existing Addictions Counsellor Strategic Plan and develop a work plan and individual specific training plan * Organize and implement community workshops and groups dealing with substance use issues * Plan, organize, and implement education programs for elementary and secondary school students * Target prevention of high-risk groups, conduct assessments for early identification, and implement intervention approaches. * Complete intake, screening, and assessments utilizing provincially mandated assessment tools and the Native Wellness Assessment * Conduct risk assessments and provide pre-treatment support * Deliver community-based treatment programs and counseling * Refer clients to treatment as required, and provide discharge planning and relapse support * Create and implement an intensive aftercare program * Integrate land-based, cultural, and language practices into all programs and services * Provide crisis intervention and client advocacy as required * Manage client cases and maintain confidential client records * Lead new initiatives and inform the team on new developments in addictions
