Axiom is supporting a boutique practice seeking a capable lawyer to assist across a mix of commercial, litigation and advisory matters. The role offers exposure to both contentious and non‑contentious work for business clients, with the opportunity to take ownership of files and contribute to the smooth running of the practice. You will support the principal by managing day‑to‑day workflow, reviewing work product, and helping maintain strong client relationships. The position involves hands‑on legal work across active matters, along with general practice support to ensure continuity when the principal is occupied or unavailable. It’s well suited to a lawyer who is confident working independently while still collaborating closely within a small team. Responsibilities: * Manage employment law matters including bullying and grievance issues, general protections and adverse action claims, separation negotiations, deeds of release, employment agreements, policy advice and WorkCover‑related submissions. * Handle commercial disputes by preparing letters of demand, managing services‑agreement terminations, drafting mediation correspondence, preparing commercial deeds of release and liaising with barristers when needed. * Completing trusts, estates and corporate work such as drafting wills and powers of attorney, reviewing and amending trust deeds, advising on DOCAs and preparing corporate resolutions and related correspondence. * Provide IP and commercial advisory support through reviewing trademark coexistence agreements, licensing arrangements, services agreements, share option agreements and a range of commercial contracts. * Independently managing files while escalating matters only when deadlines, complaints, settlement authority, novel issues or barrister briefs require the Managing Partner’s involvement. * Work confidently with cloud‑based practice systems including ActionStep or Smokeball, DocuSign and Microsoft 365 to manage documents, billing and client communications. Requirements: * Experience managing employment law matters, including grievances, general protections issues, separations, deeds of release, employment agreements and WorkCover‑related advice. * Capability to handle commercial disputes such as letters of demand, services‑agreement terminations, mediation correspondence and liaising with barristers when required. * Competence across trusts, estates and corporate tasks including wills, powers of attorney, trust deed amendments, DOCAs and corporate resolutions. * Strong commercial advisory and IP experience with the ability to review licensing arrangements, services agreements, share option agreements and broader commercial contracts while working confidently within cloud‑based practice systems.
