Position Timeline:  Accepting applications through July 31, 2026.   Mission: The Children’s Museum of South Dakota sparks imagination and learning for all children and their grown-ups through play, creativity, and discovery.   Vision: CMSD seeks to transform the world by inspiring generations to love learning and to believe that life is full of possibilities.     Job Summary: Our Custodian role creates a high-quality experience for all guests by ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all visitors and staff.  This position is responsible for daily custodial tasks, contributing to the overall care and presentation of the Museum.    Key Responsibilities: * Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming Museum environment. * Perform routine custodial duties, including dusting, vacuuming, and mopping throughout Museum spaces. * Clean and sanitize classrooms, meeting rooms, staff spaces, and common areas, ensuring they are prepared for visitors and staff. * Wipe windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces for a polished appearance. * Monitor and empty garbage and recycling bins regularly. * Clean and disinfect restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and floors, and replenishing necessary supplies. * Continuously check high-traffic areas during operating hours to ensure cleanliness. * Respond promptly to spills, accidents, or urgent cleaning needs. * Conduct daily inspections of Museum public spaces to identify, solve, or report any maintenance or safety concerns when appropriate. * Adhere to all Museum safety protocols and procedures. * Assist with setup and breakdown of rooms and spaces for meetings, events, and other functions, ensuring they are clean, ready to use, and set to specific layout requirements.   * When needed, conduct light outdoor seasonal maintenance, including weeding and deadheading plants, as well as minor snow removal. * Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: * Shows a passion for and commitment to our mission, vision, and values. * Previous custodial, janitorial, or facility maintenance experience preferred, but not required. * Ability to follow and enforce established systems, processes, and procedures with consistency and accuracy. * Commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organization. * Great attention to detail. * Ability to accomplish tasks and meet deadlines. * Self-motivated and able to work independently and take initiative. * Physical ability to perform cleaning tasks, lift up to 30 pounds, and work in indoor and outdoor environments. Work Environment: * Scheduled shifts will include evenings, weekends, and some holidays.  A commitment to work at least 2 to 3 weekends each month is required. * This role requires an active, hands-on approach, including standing and walking for extended periods and performing tasks that involve lifting, bending, and moving objects to ensure a clean and safe environment for our visitors. * Work is completed both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in varying weather conditions. * This role must be completed onsite. * Part-time commitment requires a minimum of 8-15 hours per week. * This position reports to our Operations and Exhibit Manager.
