POSITION: EHS Teacher I                                                              CATEGORY: Full time; Hourly; Non-exempt SUPERVISOR: Director                                                                  Revised: 05/07/2024   Position Summary: Under the supervision of the ECE Assistant Director, the Teacher I will provide support to all levels of staff for the BSR ECE Department’s Early Head Start Program including but not limited to the following: assist with the supervision of children, preparing materials for learning activities, participate and guide children in learning activities, safe and sanitary environment for children and work with parents in planning children’s needs.  Teacher I will work in assisting the programs of the Department with providing the needs of the families and children served under the funding requirements and compliance provided by the funding sources of the Department.   This list of duties and responsibilities is illustrative only of the duties performed by this position and is not all-inclusive. Each classification may not be assigned all duties listed, nor do the examples cover all duties which may be assigned.   JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Job responsibilities include but are not limited to: ·       Providing a safe and healthy learning environment for children. ·       Following all federal, state, and tribal regulations regarding instruction practices, fire, and health and safety standards including hand washing, laundry, and housekeeping practices. ·       Conducting assigned staff responsibilities regarding lesson plans, evaluations, and records. Formulates lesson plans for classroom activities and home learning tasks. ·       Responsibility for the daily completion of USDA meal count. Self-monitor classroom documentation to ensure systems and procedures are being followed as per written guidance and timelines. ·       Enhancing physical and intellectual competence in children by promoting physical, cognitive, language, and creative skills, including children who require special services. Attend teacher meetings as scheduled to facilitate mentoring classroom staff in ECE. ·       Reinforcing positive communication, respect, and interaction between children and adults. ·       Communicating with and actively involves parents in all aspects of site activities, through parent-teacher conferences, open house, community gatherings and brainstorming sessions. ·       Following established program curriculums, procedures, documentation, and service plans. In accordance with the Site/Education Coordinator, monitors and provide support assistance to staff and EHS partners. Perform administrative duties as assigned. Collaborate with teachers to bring consistency and best practices to the classroom. ·       Modeling appropriate instructional techniques for teachers and volunteers. Provides assistance in completing all appropriate documentation, i.e., Daily Assessment form, Feeding Guide, and Health Reports. ·       Actively participating in age-appropriate interactions and classroom activities such as free play, mealtime, floor time and classroom activities. May include bathing, diaper changing, and formula preparation for infants. Follow site procedures to receive and discharge the children. ·       Administering educational screenings, identifying, and referring children with potential high risk of health, disability, or behavioral concerns. ·       always Maintaining confidentiality of program and client related information. ·      Reports any indication of abuse or neglect. ·      Maintaining professional knowledge by attending meetings, conferences, and educational workshops. ·      Maintaining confidentiality of all privileged information. ·      Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required. ·      Performing other duties as required.     JOB POSITION REQUIRES: Obtain within four (4) months of hire, or possess, current Infant Toddler Child Development Associate Certificate (CDA) or current California Child Development Associate Teacher Permit; or an associate degree in early childhood (EDE) or Child Development and 3 units in Infant/Toddler course. Must continue taking ECE or CD Classes, or bachelor’s degree in child       development, Early Childhood Education, or equivalent coursework (12 units of ECE/CD classes). First Aid, CPR, and California Food Handlers’ certifications obtained within six (6) months of hire. High School Diploma, GED or CHSPE required. Experience with Native Communities is preferred. Shall possess and maintain a valid California Class C drivers’ license, and qualify for employer insurability, throughout the course of employment. Must successfully pass pre-employment drug/alcohol screening, pre-employment health screening and TB clearance, and background investigation.   ALSO NEEDED:   * Possess skills in working with a diverse group of parents. ·       Knowledge, experience or special interest in American Indian Culture. ·       Strong, respectful communication, both verbal and written. ·       Ability to maintain confidentiality and knowledge to work with 0 to 3-year-old children and their families. ·       Having sensitivity to the Native American culture, tradition and BSR community’s health, education, and welfare needs. ·       Good writing and organization skills and ability to organize, maintain and submit records and reports if needed. ·       Having a good understanding and working knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications. ·       The ability to work independently and support a team environment. ·       The ability to present information one-on-one, to small groups and to the BSR. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee occasionally is required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.   WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is generally performed in an office setting with a moderate noise level. Evening and/or weekend work may be required. Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required. Travel may be required.   PREFERENCE IN HIRING: Preference in hiring is given to qualified American Indian in accordance with Indian Preference Act. Applicants claiming Indian preference must submit verification or Indian heritage documentation certified by Tribe of affiliation or Bureau of Indian Affairs.
