Electrical Engineering Verification Technician   Greater Boston, MA / ENGINEERING / FULL-TIME OR CONTRACT   About Full Spectrum Software   Full Spectrum is a leading provider of software and system development and testing services for the medical device industry. We boast an almost 40-year history in successfully designing and developing over 1,000 Class I, II, and III medical device and non-medical solutions. As one of the earliest ISO 13485 certified software providers in the domain, Full Spectrum has a proven track record of helping our customers translate their business objectives into successful commercial products.   Position Overview:   Full Spectrum is looking for a hands-on Electrical Engineering Verification Technician to join our fast-paced medical device development team.   This role bridges the gap between early-stage engineering evaluations and formal regulatory compliance. You will play a dual role: performing empirical bench testing on early PCBA revisions (characterizing performance, debugging physical layouts, and generating real-world data to justify FMEA risk assumptions) and executing formal Design Verification on finalized, frozen hardware designs to generate objective regulatory evidence.   If you enjoy working in the lab with benchtop equipment, troubleshooting complex hardware/software interactions, and seeing innovative medical devices go from prototype to market, this is the position for you.   Responsibilities:   Empirical Bench Testing & Hardware Evaluation (Development Phase) * PCBA & Schematic Validation: Conduct hands-on empirical bench testing across PCBA revisions to confirm physical layouts and schematics operate as intended in real-world conditions. * Empirical Data for Risk Analysis: Perform characterization and failure testing (e.g., thermal overload, short-circuit behavior, signal integrity) to collect empirical data supporting Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) risk models. * Troubleshooting & Rework: Debug hardware anomalies, noise, trace issues, and component failures during iterative engineering phases; perform basic SMT component rework, soldering, and board modifications as required. * Test Bench & Fixture Setup: Assemble, wire, and maintain electrical test benches, custom breakout boxes, test fixtures, and cable harnesses. Formal Design Verification Execution (Formal Verification Phase) * Protocol Execution: Execute formal hardware design verification test protocols against finalized, frozen product requirements using calibrated, traceable equipment. * Good Documentation Practices (GDP): Accurately document all test results, data logs, and execution steps in compliance with FDA design controls, ISO 13485 quality standards, and GDP requirements. * Defect Logging & Analysis: Identify, record, and track hardware defects using tools like Jira or Azure DevOps; work with EE design engineers to drive root-cause analysis and resolution. * Equipment Management: Operate and maintain standard electronic test equipment (oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, spectrum analyzers, power supplies, logic analyzers) ensuring proper setup and calibration traceability.   Qualifications & Essential Skills:   * Experience: 3+ years of hands-on technical experience in electrical bench testing, hardware troubleshooting, or testing printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs). * Domain Knowledge: Practical understanding of the distinct goals of early empirical bench testing (iterative learning/debugging) vs. formal Design Verification (locked protocols/regulatory evidence). * Instrumentation Experience: Hands-on operation of benchtop electronic test instrumentation (Scopes, DMMs, Function Generators, Power Supplies, Logic Analyzers). * Schematic & Layout Literacy: Proven ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, PCB layout files, bill of materials (BOMs), and component datasheets. * Regulated Industry Experience: Working knowledge of FDA Design Controls, ISO 13485, and Good Documentation Practices (GDP) within a medical device or regulated environment. * Problem Solving & Communication: Strong analytical and root-cause troubleshooting skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills to document anomalies clearly.   Education Requirements:   * Associate Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology (EET), Electrical Engineering, or equivalent technical trade school / military electronics training. (Bachelor’s degree in EET or BSEE is a plus).   Desired Skills (Nice to Have):   * IPC J-STD-001 or IPC-A-610 certification for high-reliability soldering and SMT component rework. * Experience with test automation or basic scripting (Python, LabVIEW, or C/C++) to interface with test equipment. * Familiarity with electrical safety and EMC testing principles (e.g., IEC 60601-1 standards). Experience using requirements management and defect tracking tools (Jira, Azure DevOps, DOORS, or Helix ALM).
