Trainee / Medical Laboratory Technician - Specimen Services Permanent, Part-time Wellington   Who we are | Ko wai mātou: Awanui Labs is a part of Awanui Group, the largest network of human and veterinary pathology laboratories in New Zealand. Our team of specialist pathologists, scientists, technicians, phlebotomists, couriers, and shared services personnel deliver a world-class service that together collects, analyses, and reports over 7 million patient results annually. About the role | Mō te tūranga: We're looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to join our Specimen Services team as a Trainee/Medical Laboratory Technician. This is a permanent, part-time position of 60 hours per fortnight, 6hours per weekday (1.30pm – 8pm). A great opportunity to build your skills in a supportive, fast-paced laboratory environment.   As part of our 24/7 laboratory service, our department operates from 4:00 am to midnight. While most shifts will follow a regular roster, occasional evening shifts and weekend work will be required, perfect for someone who enjoys variety and being part of an essential healthcare service. Key Responsibilities includes: * Barcoding, receipting and preparing specimens coming into the laboratory; performing data entry of patient and test details; answering telephones. * You will work collaboratively as part of the team, work well under pressure, and have an eye for detail and problem-solving ability. About you | He kōrero mōu To succeed in this role you will need: * The ability to work in a methodical manner adhering to strict quality procedure guidelines. * Customer focus and commitment to providing a high quality of service to internal and external customers with effective interpersonal skills * A sound knowledge of medical terminology, laboratory operations including safety, operation of equipment and hands-on practical experience is desirable, but not essential. * Diploma in Applied Science, or a Bachelor of Science would be an advantage, but not essential * Registration with the Medical Science Council and an Annual Practising Certificate as a Medical Laboratory Pre-Analytical Technician in Specimen Services is desirable, but not essential. * Eligibility to work in New Zealand.   If you are not already registered with the Medical Science Council of New Zealand, we will support you working towards becoming a Qualified Medical Laboratory Pre-Analytical Technician within 2 years of employment. If you do not yet have your registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand, we will also consider candidates who are in the process of becoming qualified.
