Trainee – Patient Services Casual Auckland: Otahuhu, Botany, Howick, Pakuranga, Mount Wellington Who we are | Ko wai mātou: Awanui Labs is a part of Awanui Group, the largest network of human and veterinary pathology laboratories in New Zealand. At Awanui, we’re proud to be a national network of 25 laboratories, 150 collection centres, and employers of over 2,200 people throughout Aotearoa. Our team of specialist pathologists, scientists, technicians, phlebotomists, couriers, and shared services personnel deliver a world-class service that together collects, analyses, and reports over 7 million patient results annually. Our Patient Services Department is responsible for the collection of blood samples and handling contained specimens, i.e., human blood, faeces, urine, tissue etc from patients within the community and the hospital. These samples are then processed and tested in our state-of-the-art medical laboratory. About the role | Mō te tūranga: Our Patient Services Department is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Trainee to join our team. This casual role offers hands-on experience across multiple collection centres. You’ll gain valuable exposure to a variety of patient interactions, develop practical skills, and play an important role in delivering timely, high-quality services to our community. We welcome applications from trainees as well as candidates with previous experience in phlebotomy, medical, or medical science fields. Preference may be given to candidates based within the Otahuhu, Botany, Howick, Pakuranga, Mount Wellington cluster, who understand that they will be required to work across all three collection centres as needed. Responsibilities include: * The key tasks include blood collection, responsible for handling contained specimens, i.e., human blood, faeces, and tissue, and preparing specimens for transportation. * Provide professional customer service, and serve as a link between health professionals, their patients, and the laboratory.   About you | He kōrero mōu To be successful in this role, you need to * A positive and friendly approach to your work and demonstrate cultural and social sensitivity. * Compassion for others, including a real desire to provide high-quality care to a wide variety of patients of all ages and circumstances. * Excellent customer service skills including a high level of personal presentation. * Strong attention to detail and an ability to follow processes accurately, even when under pressure. * Respect for always ensuring patient confidentiality and in all matters.  * Good computer skills. * Registration with the Medical Science Council and an Annual Practising Certificate as a Medical Laboratory Pre-Analytical Technician in Patient Services is desirable, but not essential. * Eligibility to work in New Zealand.   If you are not already registered with the Medical Science Council of New Zealand, we will support you working towards becoming a Qualified Medical Laboratory Pre-Analytical Technician within 2 years of employment.
