Job Summary: The Fabricator/Welder is responsible for fabricating, fitting, welding, and assembling structural steel components and custom equipment used in industrial automation systems and machinery. Working from engineering drawings and fabrication packages, this position plays a critical role in producing high-quality assemblies that meet Altec's standards for safety, quality, and craftsmanship. As part of a collaborative manufacturing team, the Fabricator/Welder partners closely with engineering, production, and quality personnel to transform concepts into finished products. Every project is custom-built, requiring strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt to unique fabrication challenges. Success in this role comes from taking pride in your workmanship, embracing continuous learning, and delivering precision, efficiency, and quality throughout every stage of the fabrication process. Responsibilities: Fabrication & Welding * Fabricate, fit, and weld structural steel and custom components used in industrial machinery and automation systems. * Read and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication prints, weld symbols, and work instructions. * Perform Flux Core welding as the primary welding process, with MIG, TIG, and Stick welding utilized as required. * Measure, cut, drill, grind, bevel, and prepare materials for fabrication and assembly. * Verify proper fit-up and alignment prior to welding. * Produce welds that meet quality standards and project specifications. * Inspect completed assemblies to ensure dimensional accuracy, workmanship, and structural integrity. Manufacturing Operations * Operate fabrication equipment including band saws, ironworkers, drill presses, grinders, cutting torches, and other shop equipment. * Safely move and position fabricated assemblies using overhead cranes, forklifts, and rigging equipment (where qualified). * Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality teams to resolve fabrication challenges. * Meet production schedules while maintaining a strong commitment to quality and safety. * Identify fabrication improvements that increase efficiency while maintaining workmanship standards. Safety & Housekeeping * Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. * Follow all company safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE). * Report equipment deficiencies, material concerns, and quality issues promptly. * Participate in continuous improvement and safety initiatives. Preferred Qualifications * Minimum 3 to 5 years of fabrication and welding experience in a manufacturing environment. * High school diploma or equivalent required. * Technical training, trade certification, or welding certification is considered an asset. * Strong Flux Core welding experience is required. * Experience with MIG, TIG, and Stick welding is considered an asset. * Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and weld symbols. * Experience fabricating structural steel, heavy equipment, industrial machinery, or custom equipment. * Strong understanding of fabrication methods, welding procedures, and quality standards. * Experience using precision measuring equipment including tape measures, squares, levels, and calipers. * Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality workmanship.   Working Conditions * Full-time position based at Altec Manufacturing Inc. in Diboll, Texas. * Manufacturing environment with exposure to welding fumes, noise, heat, and moving equipment. * Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and manual material handling. * Regular lifting of materials up to 50 pounds. * Use of overhead cranes, forklifts, and fabrication equipment. * Required use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
