Bedford House –Full Time Overnight Support Worker –with Benefits The Agency The Calgary John Howard Society (CJHS) is a charity that reduces crime and makes Calgary communities safer by helping youth and adults make positive changes and move away from criminal behaviour. We do this by addressing the root causes of crime through housing, education, employment programs and support so that individuals have alternatives to breaking the law. The Program Bedford House is a community-based residential facility (CRF) that provides housing, ongoing counselling, support and connections to appropriate community services to men who are on federal conditional release.  Staffed 24 hours a day, Bedford House is apartment-style living. The Position The Overnight Support Worker is responsible for: supervising residents and the facility in accordance with written policy; performing all general shift duties; maintaining strong written/verbal communication; maintaining a flexible approach in meeting the needs of the residents while maintaining the safety of the community; and being prepared and physically able to deal with routine/crisis situations. The shifts are awake overnights, 9:00 p.m.- 7:00 a.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (40 hours/week). The Overnight Support Worker must have strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team setting; some post-secondary education or equivalent experience working within the criminal justice system; good verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving and decision-making skills; the ability to set and maintain professional boundaries; and knowledge regarding trauma-informed care. A current criminal record check (CPIC) is required.  Brain Story Certification considered an asset.
