Americans for Prosperity (AFP) is the premier grassroots organization focused on advocating solutions to the country’s greatest challenges. We recognize that tens of millions of Americans are frustrated with the extreme partisanship in government that keeps common-sense reforms from being passed, and instead seek to stand with policy leaders who are committed to finding a better way. Americans for Prosperity is part of the Stand Together philanthropic community. As Deputy State Director for AFP-Virginia, you'll serve as a top strategic leader helping shape and execute the chapter's policy, political, and grassroots priorities across the Commonwealth. We're looking for an entrepreneurial, versatile leader who moves fluidly between big-picture strategy and hands-on execution, and who can travel regularly throughout Virginia. HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE Partner with the State Director to build and execute strategy across public policy, government affairs, grassroots advocacy, and political engagement in Virginia. Track Virginia's General Assembly, executive branch, elections, and policy landscape, and turn that knowledge into clear strategy and opportunities for the chapter. Build trusted relationships with legislators, administration officials, coalition partners, and community leaders across the political spectrum. Lead major legislative and advocacy initiatives from strategy through execution, working closely with grassroots, communications, and political teams. Supervise, coach, and develop team members, building a high-performing, collaborative culture. Represent AFP publicly with policymakers, coalition partners, media, and other audiences, and step into new priorities as they come up. WHAT YOU WILL BRING Strong working knowledge of public policy, politics, and government affairs, and how they connect to grassroots strategy. Experience with legislative affairs, lobbying, policy development, coalition building, or grassroots advocacy. An entrepreneurial mindset: you take ownership, solve problems, and move work forward without heavy direction. Strong political judgment and the ability to tell short-term activity apart from work that creates lasting impact. Experience building trusted relationships with elected officials, policymakers, and community leaders. Experience leading, coaching, or developing high-performing teams. Strong communication skills and comfort representing an organization publicly. Familiarity with Virginia's political and legislative landscape, or the demonstrated ability to build that quickly. A valid driver's license. Enthusiasm to contribute to Stand Together's vision and principled approach to solving problems, and a commitment to stewarding our culture, which champions values including transformation and innovation, entrepreneurialism, humility, and respect. STANDOUT CANDIDATES WILL BRING Significant experience in or around a state legislature, governor's office, political campaign, advocacy organization, or policy organization. Established relationships within Virginia's political, business, or civic community. A track record of integrating policy, political, grassroots, and communications strategy into a single coordinated plan. WHAT WE OFFER Competitive benefits: Enjoy a 6% 401(k) match with immediate vesting, flexible time off, comprehensive health and dental plans, plus wellness and mental health support through Peloton and Talkspace. A meaningful career: Join a passionate community of over 1,400 employees dedicated to improving lives and driving innovative solutions to complex social challenges. Commitment to growth: Thrive in a non-hierarchical environment that empowers employees to discover, develop and apply their unique talents. Competitive compensation: Our approach rewards the value you create through competitive salaries and bonus opportunities, allowing you to share in the success you help drive. Our Values: Working for an organization within the Stand Together philanthropic community is different from many other places. The culture is deeply rooted in Principle Based Management® (PBM®), a framework guided by the principles that drive human progress, such as dignity, openness, and bottom-up empowerment. PBM® empowers employees to be entrepreneurial, to innovate, and to continually drive transformation. We believe diversity fuels creativity, broadens knowledge, and helps drive success.
