WHAT YOU’LL DO As our product reach grows and international tax laws shift, managing indirect tax requires deep context and real ownership. We are establishing a dedicated global indirect tax function to handle our footprint across multiple office locations and the dozens of countries where we sell products and host events. In this role, you will act as the core expert shaping our global VAT, GST, US sales tax, and digital services tax strategies. Reporting to the Head of Group Tax, you will take full ownership of designing scalable compliance processes from scratch rather than just maintaining inherited workflows. You will collaborate directly with legal, procurement, marketing, and engineering teams to ensure our systems handle new commercial operations, like e-invoicing and real-time reporting mandates, smoothly. Your judgment will directly influence how JetBrains navigates changing legislation and mitigates financial risks worldwide. DAY TO DAY, YOU WILL: * Lead global indirect tax operations, managing VAT, GST, digital services tax, US sales tax, consumption taxes, and customs duties across all global entities. * Design and implement end-to-end tax workflows for digital services, physical goods, employee benefits, and intercompany transactions. * Direct our response to ViDA, focusing on the deployment of electronic invoicing. * Oversee compliance lifecycles, coordinate registrations, and manage external service providers across international jurisdictions. * Evaluate and refine internal indirect tax controls and policies to support business growth. * Advise internal product and operational teams on the tax implications of new commercial initiatives. * Partner with technical teams to automate tax reporting and integrate compliance logic into our ERP systems. * Monitor international tax updates, assessing their impact and leading the necessary system changes. * Manage tax audits and direct communications with local tax authorities. * Train internal stakeholders across departments on indirect tax compliance practices. WHAT YOU’LL BRING * A problem-solving mindset that turns complex regulatory ambiguity into structured, clear processes. * The autonomy to make decisions and full accountability for the results. * Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax implications in plain language to non-tax colleagues. * Cultural curiosity when working with cross-functional teams spanning different countries and backgrounds. * A commitment to quality that avoids quick fixes in favor of stable, long-term operational workflows. WHAT YOU’LL NEED * Comprehensive experience in international indirect taxation, blending advisory or consultancy work with in-house operations for an international corporation. * Deep technical command of international VAT frameworks, including EU VAT application rules. * A proven track record of designing tax workflows or adapting business systems to new regional tax legislations. * Experience managing cross-border tax audits and dealing directly with regulatory authorities. * Fluency in written and spoken English. * A practical understanding of tax automation tools and ERP system integrations.
