About the role | Mō te tūranga: Our Biochemistry & Immunology department is on the lookout for a passionate and capable Intern or Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our dynamic team in Auckland. This is a fixed-term, full-time position (80 hours per fortnight) for one year, to provide parental leave cover. This job will predominately be for Immunology section. The department is multifaceted, providing a broad range of diagnostic testing, including clinical biochemistry assays, infectious serology, autoimmune panels. You will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology and contribute to essential diagnostic services that support patient care across diverse specialties. Key Responsibilities: * Perform a wide range of diagnostic and investigative tests in immunology section, including autoimmune assays, serum electrophoresis and infectious serology. * Ensure accurate, timely, and high-quality test results in alignment with established laboratory standards and protocols. * Operate, maintain, and assist in troubleshooting advanced laboratory instruments and technologies. * Participate actively in quality control and quality assurance procedures. * Maintain precise documentation and records in compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements. * Collaborate with scientific and clinical staff to support accurate diagnosis and effective patient care. * Adhere strictly to health and safety protocols to ensure a safe laboratory environment. * Contribute to ongoing quality and process improvement initiatives within the department. About you | He kōrero mōu To be successful in this role you need to have: * The ability to work in a methodical manner while adhering to strict quality and safety procedures to ensure accurate and reliable results. * A team-focused attitude with initiative, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. * Sound knowledge of laboratory operations, including safety practices, quality assurance processes, equipment operation, and practical laboratory skills. * Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, along with a current Annual Practising Certificate, or eligibility to obtain registration. * Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
