Intern / Medical Laboratory Scientist – Biochemistry & Immunology Fixed-term, Full-Time Auckland Who we are | Ko wai mātou: Awanui Labs is a part of Awanui Group, the largest network of human and veterinary pathology laboratories in New Zealand. Our team of specialist pathologists, scientists, technicians, phlebotomists, couriers, and shared services personnel deliver a world-class service that together collects, analyses, and reports over 7 million patient results annually. About the role | Mō te tūranga: Our Biochemistry & Immunology department is on the lookout for a passionate and capable Intern or Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our dynamic team in Auckland. This is a fixed-term, full-time position (80 hours per fortnight) for one year, to provide parental leave cover. This job will predominately be for Immunology section. The department is multifaceted, providing a broad range of diagnostic testing, including clinical biochemistry assays, infectious serology, autoimmune panels. You will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology and contribute to essential diagnostic services that support patient care across diverse specialties. Key Responsibilities: * Perform a wide range of diagnostic and investigative tests in immunology section, including autoimmune assays, serum electrophoresis and infectious serology. * Ensure accurate, timely, and high-quality test results in alignment with established laboratory standards and protocols. * Operate, maintain, and assist in troubleshooting advanced laboratory instruments and technologies. * Participate actively in quality control and quality assurance procedures. * Maintain precise documentation and records in compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements. * Collaborate with scientific and clinical staff to support accurate diagnosis and effective patient care. * Adhere strictly to health and safety protocols to ensure a safe laboratory environment. * Contribute to ongoing quality and process improvement initiatives within the department. About you | He kōrero mōu To be successful in this role you need to have: * The ability to work in a methodical manner while adhering to strict quality and safety procedures to ensure accurate and reliable results. * A team-focused attitude with initiative, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. * Sound knowledge of laboratory operations, including safety practices, quality assurance processes, equipment operation, and practical laboratory skills. * Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, along with a current Annual Practising Certificate, or eligibility to obtain registration. * Eligibility to work in New Zealand. If you do not yet have your registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand, we will also consider candidates who are in the process of becoming qualified.
