TITLE: SEASONAL ATHLETIC COACH CLASSIFICATION: PART-TIME, SEASONAL, STIPEND BASED  REPORTS TO: ATHLETIC DIRECTOR/DEAN OF STUDENT LIFE DEPARTMENT: ATHLETICS School Overview: Since 1912, God has been calling his people together here in South Holland to intentionally love and learn together with a deep hope for the world in which we live.   Mission: Calvin Christian School exists to educate God's children to boldly follow Christ for kingdom service. Job Summary: The Seasonal Athletic Coach is responsible for leading and supporting students participating in a Calvin Christian School athletic team, extracurricular sport, or activity. The coach creates a positive, safe, encouraging, and Christ-centered environment where students can develop skills, build character, practice teamwork, and grow in confidence. The coach is responsible for planning and conducting practices, supervising students during practices and competitions or events, teaching sport- or activity-specific skills, and promoting good sportsmanship and Christian character. The coach works collaboratively with school administrators, other coaches, families, and applicable athletic or program organizations to provide a positive experience for students. Please note that this is a seasonal position. The specific season, sport/activity, schedule, age group, and coaching responsibilities will vary based on the position being filled. Key Responsibilities: 1. Coaching and Program Leadership * Plan and lead practices, training sessions, rehearsals, or other program activities appropriate to the assigned sport or activity. * Teach and develop age-appropriate skills, techniques, strategies, and fundamentals related to the assigned sport or activity. * Prepare students for scheduled games, competitions, performances, events, or other program activities. * Create an organized, engaging, and positive environment that encourages participation and personal growth. * Adjust instruction and activities to meet the needs and abilities of individual students. * Promote teamwork, cooperation, perseverance, discipline, and good sportsmanship. 2. Student Supervision and Safety * Maintain appropriate supervision of students throughout practices, games, competitions, events, and other assigned activities. * Follow all Calvin Christian School safety policies, procedures, and expectations. * Monitor student behavior and address concerns in a manner consistent with school policies and Christian values. * Respond appropriately to injuries, illness, emergencies, or other student safety concerns. * Maintain a safe environment and ensure that equipment and facilities are used appropriately. * Follow applicable rules and safety requirements established by the school, athletic association, league, or activity organization. 3. Student Development and Character * Build positive and appropriate relationships with students while maintaining professional boundaries. * Encourage students to develop confidence, perseverance, responsibility, respect, and self-discipline. * Model Christian character, integrity, humility, and servant leadership. * Emphasize personal growth, teamwork, and character development in addition to performance. * Encourage students to demonstrate respect toward teammates, opponents, officials, coaches, staff, and families. * Support the spiritual and personal development of students in a manner consistent with Calvin Christian School's mission and values. 4. Communication and Collaboration * Communicate effectively with students, families, school administrators, teachers, and fellow coaches. * Provide families with appropriate information regarding schedules, expectations, practices, games, competitions, and events. * Work collaboratively with other coaches and school staff to coordinate program activities. * Communicate student concerns, injuries, attendance issues, or other significant matters to the appropriate school administrator. * Attend required coach meetings, trainings, orientations, and program events. * Complete required documentation and administrative responsibilities in a timely manner. 5. Equipment and Program Responsibilities * Prepare and organize equipment and materials needed for practices and program activities. * Properly use, store, and maintain school equipment and facilities. * Report damaged equipment, facility concerns, or other safety issues to the appropriate school staff member. * Assist with setup and cleanup before and after practices, games, competitions, and events. * Support the overall success and positive reputation of the Calvin Christian School athletic or activity program. Qualifications: * High school diploma or equivalent preferred. * Previous experience participating in or coaching the assigned sport or activity preferred. * Experience working with children or adolescents in an educational, athletic, recreational, or community setting preferred. * Knowledge of the assigned sport or activity and its rules, techniques, and safety practices. * Strong communication and interpersonal skills. * Ability to work effectively with students of varying ages, abilities, and experience levels. * Dependable, organized, patient, and enthusiastic. * Ability to work collaboratively with school staff, other coaches, families, and program representatives. * Commitment to the mission and values of Calvin Christian School. * Familiarity with Christian teachings and a Reformed perspective is a plus. * Willingness and ability to complete required coach training and school compliance requirements. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” * Encouraging and Supportive: Demonstrates genuine care for students and encourages participation, growth, confidence, and perseverance. * Positive and Energetic: Brings enthusiasm and a positive attitude to practices, competitions, and other program activities. * Patient and Compassionate: Recognizes and responds appropriately to students' individual needs, abilities, and personalities. * Reliable and Responsible: Arrives prepared and on time, follows through on responsibilities, and prioritizes student safety. * Team-Oriented: Works effectively with fellow coaches, school staff, families, and students. * Positive Role Model: Demonstrates integrity, kindness, respect, sportsmanship, perseverance, and Christian character. Physical Requirements: Physical requirements will vary depending on the assigned sport or activity and may include: * Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, kneel, and move throughout practices and events. * Ability to participate in or demonstrate sport- or activity-specific movements as appropriate. * Ability to lift and carry equipment and supplies appropriate to the assigned program. * Ability to work indoors and outdoors and in varying weather conditions when applicable. * Ability to respond appropriately to student safety needs and emergencies. Pay & Benefits: This is a part-time, seasonal, stipend position. Stipend amounts vary based on the assigned sport or activity, season, coaching responsibilities, experience, and other applicable factors. This position is not eligible for employee benefits. Required Hours: Hours vary by sport, activity, season, and assigned responsibilities. Coaches are expected to be available for scheduled practices, games, competitions, events, meetings, and required training associated with the assigned program. Specific schedules and seasonal expectations will be communicated at the time of hire. Travel Requirements: Travel may be required depending on the assigned sport or activity. Travel may include transportation to away games, competitions, tournaments, events, or other program-related activities. Working Conditions: Work is performed on the Calvin Christian School campus and/or at other locations associated with the assigned sport or activity. Coaches may work indoors and outdoors and should be prepared to work in varying weather conditions when applicable. The position may involve moderate to high levels of physical activity and noise.
