Our teams take the undifferentiated heavy lifting off Elastic's engineering organization — building and operating the services that let other engineers develop, ship, and run software at scale. What does a Software Engineer II do here? * Ship code that engineering teams across Elastic rely on * Learn from experienced engineers while owning real work * Build expertise in Go, Kubernetes, and the cloud-native ecosystem * Find your specialty and grow with the team The role is fully distributed — collaboration happens every day over GitHub, Slack, and Zoom! WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING * Build features and components for production services * Take ownership of well-scoped pieces of larger projects, from requirements through production * Propose technical solutions and bring them through to working code * Pair with senior engineers on harder problems and ask clarifying questions early * Participate in code reviews and design discussions * Helps operate the services we own and take part in the on-call rotation * Investigate incidents beyond the runbook and leave them better for the next person * Automate repetitive work through code * Communicate status and blockers early and often WHAT YOU WILL BRING ALONG * Hands-on experience writing services in Go, or strong proficiency in another systems language with motivation to ramp up on Go * Working understanding of Kubernetes fundamentals (Pods, Deployments, Services, Operators) * Familiarity with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP) * Curiosity about distributed systems and how services communicate at scale * Comfort working through ambiguity with support from more experienced engineers * A collaborative approach: welcoming feedback, sharing context, learning from teammates * Clear written and verbal communication in a distributed, async-first setting * Care about the quality of work shipped — testing, observability, and operability BONUS POINTS * Experience with Crossplane, Kubernetes operators, or similar infrastructure-as-code tooling * Proven ability to seamlessly transition between different projects, codebases, or scrum teams based on dynamic business priorities * You work autonomously and can drive decisions and results in a distributed team by leveraging asynchronous, direct, and transparent communication * Demonstrated experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools to accelerate feature development, debug complex systems, and optimize existing codebases * Background working in a cloud-based SaaS environment or on a developer platform * Familiarity with the Elastic Stack or other observability tools * Open source contributions of any kind * Experience supporting production services through an on-call rotation Compensation for this role is in the form of base salary.  This role does not have a variable compensation component.   At Elastic, our compensation philosophy aims to provide fair, competitive and transparent remuneration. Salary ranges are established based on a combination of external market benchmarks, internal pay equity considerations, and the responsibilities and complexity associated with each role. This approach helps ensure consistency across comparable roles while remaining competitive within the relevant labour markets. The final compensation offered within the applicable range will be determined based on several objective factors, including relevant professional experience, level of skills and expertise, alignment with the role requirements, and the overall scope and complexity of the position.
