The role focuses on advancing professional expertise while prioritizing precise verification, customer care, clinical safety, and consistent execution of duties. Maintaining the flexibility to support any operational station where validation has been recorded is critical. The successful pharmacist is able to support continuous business operations, appropriate staffing distribution, and optimal patient care. Specialty Pharmacist I - Specialized operational duties, clinical tracking, new patient onboarding, and order verification require formal instructional training and verified validation prior to working independently. The Specialty Pharmacist II - Independently performs multiple core specialty pharmacy workflows and exercises professional judgment to resolve routine and moderately complex clinical and operational matters. The role is distinguished from Specialty Pharmacist I by broader validated workflow competency, greater independence, training responsibility, and supervision of assigned support staff within the workflow. The Specialty Pharmacist III - An advanced working pharmacist who independently manages complex, high-risk, ambiguous, and escalated clinical or operational matters. The role is distinguished from Specialty Pharmacist II by advanced judgment, broad cross-workflow proficiency, responsibility for coaching and competency support, and shift- or workflow-level leadership. Duties and Responsibilities Clinical and Operational Responsibilities * Perform final product verification (PV2) and other assigned pharmacist reviews after successful competency validation. * Confirm the correct patient, medication, strength, dosage form, quantity, directions, labeling, packaging, storage, delivery requirements, and supporting documentation. * Review patient profiles for allergies, duplications, interactions, contraindications, and other concerns within the assigned scope; escalate issues that require additional assessment or authority. * Provide patient and caregiver counseling using clear, patient-centered language and reinforce the treatment care plan, monitoring requirements, administration expectations, and escalation instructions. * Complete refill-support activities, routine clinical documentation, order clarification support, and other pharmacist functions for which competency has been validated. * Use approved references, policies, procedures, checklists, and escalation pathways when making decisions. * Meet established accuracy, documentation, productivity, turnaround-time, attendance, and customer-service expectations. Supervisory and Leadership Responsibilities * After completing required competency validation, provide operational supervision to assigned pharmacy technicians. * Participate in formal evaluations, corrective action, schedule management and time off decisions in collaboration with the manager and Human Resources, consistent with company policy for direct reports. * Assign and prioritize technician work, monitor workflow progress, verify work requiring pharmacist review, and reinforce approved procedures and safety requirements. * Provide immediate task-level coaching and escalate recurring performance, conduct, staffing, or safety concerns to the Lead Specialty Pharmacist or manager. * Maintain required pharmacist-to-technician supervision and ratios in accordance with law and company policy. * This position independently conducts formal evaluations, issues corrective actions, and approves leave for direct reports in collaboration with the manager. * Additional duties and responsibilities in different areas of the department on an as-need basis or determined by management. * Foster a culture of accountability, integrity, collaboration, and service excellence. Training and Staff Development * Complete all orientation, workflow training, competency assessments, and required continuing education. * Demonstrate receptiveness to coaching and sustained improvement in judgment, accuracy, productivity, documentation, and customer service. * May provide limited task guidance after competency validation. * Participate in cross-training toward additional workflows based on department priorities and individual development plans. Quality, Compliance, and Customer Service * Maintain an active, unrestricted pharmacist license in all jurisdictions required by the organization and complete continuing education aligned with clinical practice and credentialing requirements on time. * Practice in accordance with federal and state laws, Board of Pharmacy requirements, accreditation standards, company policies, patient privacy requirements, and applicable standards for controlled substances and hazardous drugs. * Document pharmacist reviews, clinical interventions, communications, counseling, clarifications, holds, and outcomes accurately and within required timeframes. * Identify, report, and respond appropriately to medication errors and recalls, near misses, adverse drug events, complaints, therapy delays, and other quality or patient-safety concerns for Quality Assurance review. * Provide professional, timely, and patient-centered service to patients, caregivers, prescribers, nurses, and internal departments. * Participate in quality improvement, audit readiness, accreditation surveys, policy updates, and required training. * Maintain confidentiality, secure handling of protected health information, and professional conduct at all times. * Perform other duties and provide weekend, holiday, or on-call coverage as assigned. * Additional duties and responsibilities in different areas of the department on an as-need basis or determined by management. * Foster a culture of accountability, integrity, collaboration, and service excellence. Required Qualifications * PharmD or B.S. Pharmacy * Entry-level or developing specialty pharmacist * Unrestricted active CA Pharmacist license * License to practice in Mississippi and Alabama * Excellent verbal and written communication skills * Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills * Excellent customer service skills * Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail * Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills * Strong supervisory and leadership skills * Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate * Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment * Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software Licensure Current, active, unrestricted pharmacy licensure for appropriate state or eligibility for licensure in California, Mississippi, and Alabama. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of home infusion therapy equipment, supplies, and procedures Additional pharmacist licenses, specialty certification, or training relevant to organizational needs. Total Rewards Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as professional development, comprehensive benefits package and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary range is from $79 to $90 hourly. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
