Dandy is transforming the massive and antiquated dental industry—an industry worth over $400B. Backed by some of the world’s leading venture capital firms, we’re on an ambitious mission to simplify and modernize every function of the dental practice through technology. As we expand our reach globally, Dandy is building the operating system for dental offices around the world—empowering clinicians and their teams with technology, innovation, and world-class support to achieve more for their practices, their people, and their patients. We’ve built the largest ML and CAD engineering teams in dentistry, drawing exceptional talent from leading organizations such as Google DeepMind, Amazon, and Waymo. Our full-stack engineering teams tackle complex challenges across platform architecture, supply chain optimization, and SaaS product development. Research is core to our culture, and our team includes authors of award-winning work, including ICML Best Paper. We are looking for motivated PhD Research Interns to join our team. We are looking for motivated interns to join us in exploring how bleeding edge machine learning can reshape the future of digital dentistry and advance the state-of-the-art for generative AI. What You’ll Do * Work with large, complex datasets (3D scans, sensor data, and beyond) to build and evaluate ML models. * Explore and implement state-of-the-art machine learning methods, including generative modeling, deep learning, and applied optimization. * Tackle frontier problems in 3D dental prosthetic design by consuming and refining the outputs of generative AI models and perception layers. * Collaborate with researchers and engineers to improve existing ML pipelines and identify opportunities for innovation. * Contribute to experiments, prototypes, and production-ready solutions in real-world applications. * Learn best practices in MLOps, model evaluation, and applied research. What We’re Looking For * Current PhD student in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Applied Math, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or related field. * Strong programming skills in Python and familiarity with PyTorch or TensorFlow. * Coursework or research experience in machine learning, deep learning, or applied AI. * For CAD: strong technical background with a demonstrated passion for performant graphics, geometric computations, or novel 3D algorithms. * Prior exposure to large datasets, generative AI, or 3D/vision data is a plus, but not required. * Candidates must be able to reliably commute to the Dandy office in New York City, 3x days per week. WHY JOIN DANDY? * Work on real-world healthcare problems with an immediate impact on our platform, customers, and manufacturing operations. * Gain hands-on, full-stack experience at a fast-growing startup alongside a world-class technical team. * Receive dedicated mentorship from experienced engineers who value ownership, speed, and cross-functional collaboration. * Be part of a collaborative, NYC-based team where innovation happens daily.
