CONSTRUCTION ACCOUNTING MANAGER Phoenix, AZ | On-Site | Full-Time | Up to $125,000 A well-established, privately held organization is seeking a Construction Accounting Manager to join its Phoenix team. This is a hands-on leadership role with direct exposure to the CFO and senior management, overseeing day-to-day accounting operations while supporting the financial performance of active construction projects. The ideal candidate brings a strong construction accounting background, including WIP, job costing, progress billing, change orders, and project financial reporting, along with experience leading an accounting team. WHAT YOU’LL DO * Oversee day-to-day accounting operations and accounting personnel * Manage the general ledger and support the monthly close process * Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements * Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, collections, and payroll * Prepare cash management reports, monitor cash flow, and identify potential financial concerns * Partner with Project Managers and department leaders to review project financial performance * Track and analyze WIP, job costs, project budgets, and construction-related variances * Support progress billing and change-order accounting * Maintain accurate financial records and effective internal controls * Prepare monthly financial and operational reporting for management * Assist with budgeting, financial analysis, compliance, insurance reporting, and other special projects * Help maintain and optimize Sage and other construction-related accounting systems WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR * Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field * 8+ years of accounting experience * 3+ years of accounting management experience * 3+ years of construction accounting experience required * Strong understanding of WIP and job costing * Experience with progress billing, change orders, and project budgets * Strong month-end close, GL, reconciliation, and financial reporting experience * Experience overseeing AP, AR, payroll, and cash management * Strong Excel skills * Sage construction accounting software experience is highly preferred * Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
