Life here is full of opportunities to experience Ethiopian culture, build meaningful relationships, and explore a growing and changing city. While living in Addis comes with its challenges and requires flexibility, many who serve here find the city's people, culture, community, and sense of adventure make it a special place to call home. Ethiopia is a country unlike any other—a place of ancient history, rich culture, breathtaking landscapes, and warm hospitality. One of Africa’s oldest nations, Ethiopia has maintained its independence throughout most of its history and is home to its own unique calendar, time system, and ancient Ge’ez script. Known as the birthplace of coffee and one of the world’s most significant regions for early human history, Ethiopia also has deep Christian roots dating back to the 4th century. From the dramatic landscapes of the Simien Mountains and Danakil Depression to unique wildlife such as the Ethiopian wolf and gelada, Ethiopia offers endless opportunities to explore and learn.
